Worlds Apart Online Beta 5 Build 19 - Windows PC Only
IP = Available in the Install Package above
OFU = Available through Online File Update by running the game Launcher
Release Notes:
Dec 19 : Beta 0.05.22 -- OFU
- Fixed line breaks in the text on the loading screen no longer cuts off words in the middle.
- Added the word "Loading..." to the loading screen so you know what's going on.
- Fixed "thumbs.db" issue during Online File Update.
- Fixed the angle that the ship leaves orbit.
- Fixed the Target Detail screen image. The angle at which the target is viewed is now the
same as the angle of the ship relative to the target, rather then the angle of the ship itself.
- Fixed the Target Detail image size. The image shown is now scaled appropriately for the
target selected.
- Added target click toggle functionality. Instead of having to click in empty space, or
click on another target, if you click on the same target the Target Detail screen deactivates.
- Fixed the text alignment issue on the the "Login Failed" screen.
- Added the name of the player to be used if the Play button is clicked on the main menu.
- Doubled the size of the zone, and adjusted the speed of the ships. The Solan System is now
800,000 x 800,000 x 800,000, and the ships travel a little over twice as fast.
- Added a new planet to the Solan System. Solana now has an uninhabited moon named Archos.
- Added X, Y, and Z position within the zone, as well as current Roll Angle. I'll need to find
a better way to display this, but at least it's there.
Dec 15 : Beta 0.05.19 -- IP
- Replaced all in-game text to make it clearer at different resolutions.
- Completely redesigned the HUD.
- Added moving HUD screens. Key displays slide in and out of view as they are needed.
- Added Help Screen. (press F1 for help)
- Added Player information screen. (I key to activate)
- Added Roll commands. (Q and E now roll the ship) This should allow for some interesting
maneuvers.
- Added reverse throttle. 10% reverse setting maximum.
- Added Thrusters. Used for maneuvering in small increments for precision flying. (will be
more relevant as other features are added to the game)
- Added the ability to take damage. Shields, Hull, and Engines are affected. Repair bots will
fix the damaged areas over time. There is no "death" in the game as of yet.
- Added the ability for NPCs to take damage. (same rules apply)
- Fixed reticle bugs that caused the reticle to be placed high and to the right of where it
was supposed to be.
- Fixed missile targeting bug that caused a clicked on target to not be selected.
- Fixed weapon speeds so they carry the current speed of the ship, plus their normal speed.
(so you no longer fly past your own weapon)
- Changed key for weapons fire to spacebar. Mouse Left Button will only be for targeting.
Nov 21 : Beta 0.04.11
- Changed the addresses where the Launcher and the Client connect to the FTP and Game servers
so they follow the new naming scheme of the servers. Also changed the domains from kistech.com
to worldsapartonline.net.
- Fixed the bug that was causing the NPCs not to move.
- Fixed the server so that NPCs are moved in memory mathematically, rather than manipulating DBPro
objects. This was to speed up perofrmance of the server app as much as possible. Without having to
handle DBPro objects, there is more memory available, and movements take less CPU power.
- Fixed the player and NPC movement smoothing routines.
- Fixed Roll Compensation for NPCs.
- Added a new ship model to better approximate scale. (something I threw together in a few hours)
Nov 10 : Beta 0.04.03
- Fixed a bug that wouldn't allow multiple players to enter the game if they were using two
different characters from the same account.
- Fixed the keypress issue that caused irratic behavior when pressing a key or clicking the mouse.
- Fixed whisper mode in chat. Names with spaces are now matched correctly.
- Added Combat Mode. Press A to toggle in and out of attack mode. Reticle at mouse cursor position
will change from green to red. Press 1 for Photon Cannon (default) or press 2 for Guided Rockets.
- Added a Special Effects module to the code base. Various special effects can now be added to
the code very easily.
Oct 31 : Beta 0.03.07
- Fixed a bug that wouldn't allow the download of the server manifest. Due to this bug making it
impossible to update files, the installer has been recompiled for build 7. It is recommended that you
uninstall your current version of the game, and reinstall using installer package above.
- Shortened the time it takes the Launch.exe program to run the launcher.
- Adjusted ship speed in the game to a more realistic (slower) speed.
Oct 30 : Beta 0.03.05
- Completely rewritten Launcher with integrated Online Update.
- Added News page into the launcher for the latest game news.
- Fixed a bug that caused clipping when you approached another ship.
- Extended the collision sphere around all ships.
- Made it so that when you press / to enter chat mode, the / character is added to the input line.
- Changed the version numbering system to the way we had originally intended.
(major version).(minor version).(build)
Changes in major and minor versions will be compiled into an installer and posted here.
Changes to builds will occasionally be made available through Online Update after testing.
Oct 21 : Beta 2
- Added msvcp71.dll to the setup package, and to the live update files.
- Fixed a bug that allowed a user to enter a blank character name.
- Added command R to turn Roll Compensation on and off.
- The Setup executable has been updated to allow you to place the game wherever you like now.
- Chat text entry completely rewritten. Chat text entry is no longer affected by game speed,
and the main loop of the game continues to run while you're typing.
- Fixed the labels on planets so they are more centered.
- Fixed a bug that was causing a database error when a new character was created and then selected to play with.
- Included code in the server to detect the client version and not allow connection until the client has been updated.
- Added the command /who to the chat bar. This command will show who is currently connected to the server.
- Temporary Fix - Disabled the smooth rotation of NPCs and other players. Movement smoothing works fine,
but the other ships were tumbling when the client received rotation changes. Rotations will
now be a little more abrupt until I can fix it.
Oct 19 : Beta 1
- Fixed an error in the updater that wasn't recognizing a failed FTP server connection
- Fixed the chat length so you can type more than 40 characters in a line
- Removed some debug code that I missed earlier
- Fixed a bug that was causing a database error to bring the server to a halt
- this also fixed a bug that was attempting to log in a client with a dbid of 0
